The All-Pro receiver is now the second highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, after only Justin Jefferson, after his months-long boycott with the Dallas Cowboys has finally come to an end.
The $136 million contract, including a $100 million guarantee, was agreed upon by Lamb and the Cowboys on Monday. Three sources with direct knowledge of the agreement provided this information to the Associated Press.
Because the contract extension has not yet been formally announced, these people spoke on condition of anonymity.
Both the required minicamp in the offseason and the entirety of training camp in California were missed by Lamb. Only one day after Jefferson inked a $140 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback, did he start to disappear from the team’s offices in June.
Lamb’s contract has an average yearly worth of $34 million, which is over twice his final year’s salary from his rookie agreement.
To the astonishment of the Cowboys, who had not anticipated that Lamb would still be available, Lamb was selected 17th overall in the 2020 selection. Not that they needed a player in that position at the moment, but they picked him up immediately.
After being selected five positions later, Jefferson had three seasons in a row with at least 1,400 receiving yards. Though Lamb’s early stats weren’t as impressive, he made great progress last season, finishing first in the NFL with 135 receptions and 1,749 yards. Moreover, Lamb’s 12 touchdowns surpassed his career high.
13 days before Dallas’s September 8 season opener at Cleveland, this arrangement was reached. Five years ago, running back Ezekiel Elliott broke his five-day preseason holdout just four days before the season opener. That’s more time than they had.
Hiring quarterback Dak Prescott and elite pass rusher Micah Parsons to long-term contracts is the next item on the Cowboys’ agenda.
Lamb collaborated extensively with Prescott before leaving for California. To perfect their bond before taking on the Browns, the two will now have a few practice sessions.”
